WORDS TO PONDER

            " To save a life is a great and beautiful thing, but it is also very difficult and requires great care. To make a home for the homeless, yes, it must be a good thing, whatever the world may say, it cannot be wrong, and yet it is often considered a crime."

IN THE EPISCOPAL DIOCESE OF THE GREAT LAKES

Our Canon, the Rev. Sunil Chandy is leaving the Diocese to accept a new call.

Following is the full text of the announcement we received from the president of the Standing Committee, Rev. Molly Bosscher,

Dear Friends in Christ,

Now that the Rev. Canon Sunil Chandy’s new congregation has announced his call, we share with you the specifics that he has accepted a call to serve as rector of St. Cuthbert’s Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. His final day on staff with the Episcopal Diocese of the Great Lakes will be October 7.

We give thanks for Canon Sunil’s ministry among us and for the ways God has worked through him during his time in our diocese, and we offer our prayers for him and his family as they transition into this new chapter of ministry. At his request, there will not be a diocesan-hosted event marking the end of his ministry with us. Knowing that some of you will wish to share words of gratitude for his ministry with us, we invite you to send them directly to him at his new congregation: St. Cuthbert’s Episcopal Church, 17020 West Rd, Houston, TX 77095.

With Canon Sunil’s departure, our Interim Executive Officer, the Rev. Alan James, will serve in the vacant role of Director for Congregational Vitality in our new staff structure for the time being, including as part of our Congregational Support Team. Early in the new year, we will share more information about the interim staffing plan for this position, recognizing that the long-term shape of this role will be determined primarily by our first Bishop Diocesan.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Alan directly.

Warmly,

The Rev. Molly Bosscher
President, Standing Committee

October

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
To-morrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
To-morrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow,
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know;
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away;
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—
For the grapes’ sake along the wall.
